Get back to the life you love living.
Stanford fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement and complex revision surgery — serving Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley.
Precision surgery. A relationship that lasts for years.

Dr. Robert Matar is an orthopaedic surgeon with specialized fellowship training at Stanford University Medical Center in hip and knee replacement and complex revisions.
At Stanford he trained and worked with Drs. William J. Maloney, James I. Huddleston, Stuart B. Goodman, and Derek F. Amanatullah — surgeons whose work has shaped modern joint replacement, from foundational basic science to robotic technology and bearing surface design now used worldwide.
As a Clinical Instructor, he took Level 1 trauma call and managed the complex referrals that come to a quaternary center — failed prior joint replacements, periprosthetic fractures, infection, severe deformity, and significant bone loss. That experience shapes every case: the routine hip or knee replacement goes smoothly more often when the surgeon has spent years managing what happens when things don't.
Born and raised in a small town in Michigan, Dr. Matar has lived and worked extensively abroad and speaks English, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese. His travels include volunteer surgical trips from Central America to the Middle East and traveling fellowships in Santiago, Chile, and São Paulo, Brazil — perspectives that inform how he approaches clinical problems and connects with patients from a wide range of backgrounds.
“Honestly, it's watching people get their lives back.”
Someone comes in barely able to walk, in constant pain — and months later, they're hiking again, playing with their grandkids, doing the things they thought they'd lost. Getting to be part of that transformation, and building a real relationship with patients along the way — that's what makes this work so meaningful to me.
Advanced hip & knee care, grounded in evidence.
Anterior and posterior hip replacement with AI-assisted navigation, and robotic-assisted knee replacement — focused on reducing pain and restoring function, with safety the priority at every step.
Hip Replacement
Dr. Matar offers both anterior and posterior approaches to hip replacement, using the latest AI-assisted navigation to guide implant positioning.

Michigan. Cincinnati. Stanford.
Research remains a constant thread in his work — a dedicated research year yielded multiple grants, more than 70 presentations at national and international conferences, several national awards, and numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts in leading orthopaedic journals.

I understand what you're fighting to get back to.
I ski, I hike, I bike — this state gives you access to all of it right outside your door. A lot of the people I treat aren't just looking to walk comfortably; they want to get back on the slopes, back on the trail, back on their bike.
So when a patient tells me they're worried they won't be able to ski again, or they're missing out on hikes with their family, I understand that on a personal level. My goal isn't just to fix the problem — it's to help people get back to doing the things that make Colorado worth living in.
A team that feels like family, from day one.
